Week no. 6

The piece will be recorded and the recording will be uploaded to YouTube as a video and this week I worked on the cover art for the video.

After having the finished composition I sort of just sat with it. I wanted the cover art to be inspired by the composition. The rondo goes from a very light hearted refrain to gloomy episodes. First idea that came to mind was making the episodes into planets—I have been playing “Split Fiction” a Co-op RPG which has a space level, or multiple ones actually, but during this time I was playing one that had a dying star in the distance which kept sending pulses of solar flares which we had to dodge—I’m digressing, the point is I had space in my mind. Fun fact about me “Interstellar” is my favorite movie so, space is always on my mind.

I found a tutorial on YouTube to make a space drawing on ProCreate, a digital canvas app on the iPad.

In the video the instructor only does one planet but I decided to do two representing the two episodes in the rondo. The smaller planet represents the first episode and the bigger planet is the second episode (colors pink and teal, respectively). After finishing the planets I thought of how to represent the refrain, at first I thought the sun which is off screen can represent it—since we do get its sunshine reflecting onto the planets. I did end up making a space ship to represent it. The spaceship design is is a mixture between the ships a from Marvel’s  “Guardians of the Galaxy” and the old ships from “Lilo and Stitch”. The refrain represents the lightheartedness of traveling between the planets and looking forward to new experiences while the episodes themselves are dark and heavy. We see the ship off in the distance. I also decided to add a layer of asteroids to further fill in the space.
